1963
Origin

Our history began in 1963 after independence, as citizens moved abroad for various reasons.

Barack Obama, the 44th US President, is a descendant of early post-independence migrants who started to form diaspora associations to support their interests,

Unfortunately, the groups remained fragmented and largely overlooked by the government.

2010
Remittance

Our contributions gained recognition through remittances. In 2010, the governor of the Central Bank of Kenya announced that diaspora remittances became the top source of foreign currency, surpassing coffee, tea, pyrethrum, and tourism combined.

This report shifted the government's perspective on the diaspora.

2014
Policy Actions

Our importance grew when the African Union designated the diaspora as the sixth Region in 2003.

In response, Kenya integrated diaspora in the 2010 constitution, established the Kenya Diaspora Policy 2014, later revised in 2022, the year it also created the State Department of Diaspora Affairs (SDDA) and the IEBC deed to map some diaspora cities to participate in presidential election.

These actions accelerated diaspora momentum to reorganize itself.

2020
Technology

Our pursuit for unity within the diaspora is a collective effort, reflecting the contributions of many individuals rather than any single person.

In 2020, Bernard Kavyu from the United Kingdom and Joseph Kapukha from the USA led a global team in developing an all-inclusive centralized democratic system powered by blockchain technology to unite all Kenyans in diaspora.
