Diaspora Public Service Centers

Diaspora Public Service Centers are official units in foreign countries where government infrastructure can be used to constitutionally serve and provide public services to diaspora communities. These centers bring key services closer to Kenyans abroad while also strengthening community organization, representation, and service delivery.

What Diaspora Public Service Centers Are

These units are designated to function as official centers in foreign countries where the government can use their infrastructure to constitutionally serve and provide public service to the diaspora community.

Establishment of these centers was based on the recommendation made by Kenya Diaspora Policy 2014 that challenged Kenyans living in diaspora to form citywide community groups with a national outlook.

DC48 Kenya has ensured that such formed groups not only comply with the policy recommendation but also get registered locally in the community as a non-profit organization.

Diaspora Centers as Official Public Service Units

Diaspora Public Service Centers are the official units through which government and institutional services can reach Kenyans living abroad more effectively. They create a structured platform for service delivery, representation, and coordination within diaspora communities.

  • Official service access point abroad
  • Structured community coordination
  • Stronger representation for Kenyans in diaspora

Recognition and Certification

For a community to earn the status of being a Diaspora Center, it must be recognized by DC48 Kenya administration as per the requirements of the organization’s global bylaws.

In addition, the recognized center must also be certified by the government through the State Department of Diaspora Affairs (SDDA).

Diaspora Center vs Diaspora Station

If a unit is recognized but not certified, it is treated simply as a Diaspora Station within a certified center.

This distinction helps maintain order, structure, and accountability in the broader diaspora administration system.
